2013 Frankfort Youth Tour

Grayson Rural Electric sent 13 juniors to the state capital on April 16. Students representing Carter, Elliott and Greenup counties attended the 2013 Rural Electric Frankfort Youth Tour.  East Carter High School was represented by Taylor Burnett, Hannah Griffith, Jacob Lawhorn, Josh Poling, and Madison Prichard. Elliott County High School was represented by Kiana Maggard.  Raceland Worthington High School was represented by Makenzi Speaks.Greenup County High School was represented by Tyler Ballard, Jerome Boggs, Andrea Dean, Katelynn Potter, Jessica Reed, and Amber Riffe.  Scott Speaks, Assistant Engineering Party Chief, Sue Roberts, Customer Representative/Cashier, Nancy Madden, Technical Services Clerk and Julie Lewis, Member Services Secretary chaperoned the 13 students on the Frankfort trip.

Grayson Rural Electric’s students joined other students from across Kentucky for the tour. The tour included the Governor’s Mansion, the Capitol building, and lunch at the Capital Annex.  The Honorable Jerry Abramson, Lieutenant Governor, greeted the students on the Capitol steps. Students met with several other special speakers throughout the day: The Honorable Michael Meredith, Kentucky State Representative, District 19, The Honorable James R. Comer, Commissioner of Agriculture, The Honorable John D. Minton, Jr., Chief Justice, and Ms. Megan Cummins, KEES Coordinator, Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority.
The Youth Tour program is co-sponsored by the Kentucky Association of Electric Cooperatives and Grayson Rural Electric. It is designed to acquaint students with government and the rural electric program.

Hannah Griffith and Jessica Reed were selected to represent Grayson Rural Electric on the upcoming Rural Electric Washington Youth Tour.

Grayson Rural Electric is committed to a variety of youth programs and believes the future of the rural electric program and our nation rests with today’s young adults. The Frankfort and Washington Youth Tours are open to high school juniors from the Grayson Rural Electric service area.
