GIS Mapping at Newfoundland Substation
Grayson RECC Press Release
June 30, 2017
Grayson RECC continues to implement a Geographical Information System (GIS) Mapping system to better serve our members. GIS is a digital mapping system that will give us (when completed), detailed information about our electrical network. Among other benefits, GIS will help us restore your power more efficiently during outages.
To create our GIS system, we must do a complete field inventory. This calls for physically visiting and recording information about every pole and meter in our system. We have contracted the Davey Resource Group to complete this inventory. They will be on foot, driving trucks or ATV’s clearly marked with Grayson RECC signs and will carry letters of identification. As of June 30, 2017 we are working from the Newfoundland substation area. This area includes Bruin to Sandy Hook to RT 7, North and South Ruin to ST RT 173, Laurel Gorge area, ST RT 32 to the Rowan County line, and ST RT 504 to ST RT 1620.
Please note that their working hours are different than Grayson RECC’s hours and you may see the personnel from the Davey’s Group as late as 7:30 p.m. each evening and as early as 7:30 a.m.
If you have any questions, please contact Robert Brown, GIS Technician at Grayson RECC, 474-2139 or after hours, call 800-562-3532.
